About Folizet 5 mg Tablet

Folizet 5 mg Tablet is used to treat or prevent anemia (lack of blood) caused by folic acid deficiency, anaemia in pregnancy, anaemia due to damaged red blood cells, anaemia in kidney dialysis patients. Anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to various body tissues.

Folizet 5 mg Tablet contains Folic acid (a form of vitamin B9) that increases healthy red blood cell (RBC) production in the body and carries oxygen throughout the body.

You may experience certain side effects like nausea, black stool, constipation, loss of appetite, bloating or flatulence (gas) in some cases. Most of these side effects of Folizet 5 mg Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Folizet 5 mg Tablet or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before using Folizet 5 mg Tablet. Folizet 5 mg Tablet should be used with caution in children and only if recommended by a doctor. Inform your doctor if you have a stomach ulcer, vitamin B12 deficiency, any blood disorder, repeated blood transfusions, ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon), pernicious anemia (anemia due to lack of vitamin B12) or a folate-dependent tumor before taking Folizet 5 mg Tablet.

What if you forget to take Folizet 5 mg Tablet

If you miss a dose of Folizet 5 mg Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

  • You are recommended to maintain a time gap of a minimum of 2 hours between taking Folizet 5 mg Tablet and indigestion remedies such as antacids containing magnesium or aluminium and edible clay.
  • Inform your doctor if you are allergic to any sugars as Folizet 5 mg Tablet contains lactose.

Coadministration of Folizet 5 mg Tablet and Fluorouracil may increase the effects of Fluorouracil and increase the risk of serious side effects such as bleeding problems, anaemia (lack of blood), infections, and nerve damage.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between Folizet 5 mg Tablet and Fluorouracil, you can take these medicines together if prescribed by your doctor. However, if you experience diarrhoea, paleness of skin, severe nausea and vomiting, over-tiredness, dizziness, fainting, blood in the stools, unusual bleeding or bruising, fever, chills, body pains, flu-like symptoms, skin reactions, mouth ulcers or sores, and/or numbness, burning or tingling in your hands and feet, contact your doctor.

You are not recommended to take Folizet 5 mg Tablet with phenytoin as co-administration of these two medicines may reduce the levels of Folizet 5 mg Tablet in blood and increase the risk of seizures (fits). Folizet 5 mg Tablet helps in the development of the brain and spinal cord in the unborn baby.
