A wound occurs when your skin is injured or broken, resulting in tissue or skin damage, bleeding, or infection.

Povibit SF Ointment is a combination drug containing Metronidazole, Povidone-Iodine and Sucralfate. Povidone iodine works by inhibiting the growth of infection-causing microbes. Metronidazole inhibits protein synthesis and leads to cell death, thereby killing the bacteria. Sucralfate helps form a protective barrier over the wound to promote healing. Collectively, Povibit SF Ointment helps treat cuts, wounds and infections.

Povibit SF Ointment is for external use only. As with every medicine, Povibit SF Ointment has common side effects. These include local swelling, itchiness, redness, small blisters, and irritation at the application site. These side effects gradually resolve during the treatment and do not require medical attention.

Brief your medical history to the doctor if you are allergic to iodine or povidone. Let your doctor know if you have an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism), thyroid disease, liver, or kidney problems. Using Povibit SF Ointment during breastfeeding may increase the iodine levels in breast milk, which can cause hypothyroidism in breastfed infants. Povibit SF Ointment can cause excessive iodine absorption with its vaginal use; hence, avoid douching (washing) with Povibit SF Ointment and iodine-containing tampons during breastfeeding.
