Description

Sanguinaria canadensis, commonly known as Bloodroot, is a homoeopathic medicine derived from the rhizome of the Sanguinaria plant. Belonging to the Papaveraceae family, it has been traditionally valued for its therapeutic properties in treating respiratory and circulatory disorders. In homoeopathy, Sanguinaria canadensis is used to alleviate symptoms of sinusitis, especially when accompanied by headache and nasal congestion. It is also employed for its effects on migraines, sore throats, and menstrual irregularities. Common Names: English: Bloodroot, Red Puccoon, SBL's Sanguinaria canadensis can be helpful in the following conditions:

  • Cough and Throat Issues, Sanguinaria is useful for various coughs, including those from influenza and gastric issues. The cough is often accompanied by burning pain in the chest, particularly on the right side, and may worsen at night, requiring the patient to sit up. There's also relief from eructation (belching).
  • Pneumonia and Phthisis, It helps with pneumonia, which improves when lying on the back. Symptoms include severe shortness of breath, chest tightness, offensive sputum, and burning sensations in the chest.
  • Asthma, Especially when linked with digestive problems.
  • Laryngeal Edema, Swelling of the larynx causing difficulty breathing.
  • Aphonia, Loss of voice due to laryngeal issues.
  • Headaches, Right-sided headaches, especially those that start in the back of the head (occiput) and move forward, settling over the eyes. These headaches can be linked to the climacteric period and may recur periodically, such as every seventh day.
  • Neuralgia, Facial pain radiating from the upper jaw in various directions.
  • Nasal Problems, Conditions like hay fever, chronic rhinitis with dry and congested membranes, nasal polyps, and offensive yellowish discharges from the nose.
  • Earache, Burning sensations in the ears, earache associated with headaches, and persistent noises such as humming and roaring in the ears.

  • Menstrual and Climacteric Disorders, Symptoms include offensive and heavy menstruation, foul-smelling and irritating vaginal discharge (leucorrhea), sore breasts, and uterine polyps. Women may also experience itching in the armpits before menstruation and various menopausal symptoms.
  • Burning and Itching, Sanguinaria is characterized by burning sensations in various parts of the body, with burning and itching that worsens with heat. Red, blotchy skin eruptions that worsen in spring, acne related to scanty menstrual flow, and distinct red spots over the cheekbones.
  • Rheumatism, Pain primarily in the right shoulder, left hip joint, and the nape of the neck. It affects areas less covered by flesh rather than the joints.
  • Neuritis, Right-sided neuritis that improves with touch.
  • Extremities, Burning sensations in the palms and soles.
