About Visco Liquid

Visco Liquid belongs to a group of medicines called antacids used to treat acidity, heartburn, indigestion, gastritis (inflammation of the stomach), stomach upset, and bloating. The stomach is usually protected from acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, which leads to complications like acidity and heartburn.

Visco Liquid contains Aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, simethicone, and sodium alginate. Aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide work by neutralising excess stomach acid. Simethicone works by decreasing the surface tension of gas bubbles, thereby facilitating the expulsion of gas through flatus or belching (burping). Sodium alginate forms a protective barrier, thereby preventing irritation due to acid. Together, Visco Liquid provides relief from acidity.

You are advised to take Visco Liquid for as long as your doctor has recommended it for you, depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience common side effects, such as constipation and diarrhoea. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if the side effects persist or worsen.

Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid consuming alcohol, as it could lead to increased acidity. Inform your doctor regarding other medicines you are taking to prevent any side effects/interactions.

Disease/Condition Glossary

The stomach is usually protected from the acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, which leads to complications like acidity. Due to this, acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This backflow (acid reflux) irritates the food pipe and causes heartburn. Symptoms include heartburn, sour or bitter taste in the mouth, and difficulty swallowing. Indigestion is the feeling of fullness. It occurs due to slow gastric emptying. Symptoms include stomach pain, bloating, heartburn, nausea and vomiting.

Simethicone works by decreasing the surface tension of gas bubbles, thereby facilitating the expulsion of gas through flatus or belching (burping). Visco Liquid can be taken with antibiotic medicines if advised by the doctor. However, maintain a gap of two hours between both as Visco Liquid might make it harder for the body to absorb the medicines.
Diarrhoea might be a side-effect of Visco Liquid . Drink lots of fluids and eat non-spicy food if you experience diarrhoea. If you have severe diarrhoea, consult your doctor.
Avoid lying down immediately after meals to prevent acidity. Raise the head of the bed 10-20cm by putting on a pillow so that the head and chest are above the waist. This prevents acid reflux.
Take Visco Liquid only for as long as advised by the doctor. Talk to your doctor if your condition does not improve despite taking Visco Liquid for 1-2weeks.
