FERROUS ASCORBATE belongs to a class of medications called 'haematinics' used to treat anemia (lack of blood) due to iron deficiency and chronic kidney disease. Anaemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells to carry the adequate oxygen required to various body tissues.
FERROUS ASCORBATE contains Ferrous ascorbate, which is a combination of iron and vitamin C. Ironworks by reloading iron stores, and vitamin C enhances iron absorption in the body. Thus, FERROUS ASCORBATE helps to treat iron deficiency.
Take FERROUS ASCORBATE as advised by your doctor. In some cases, you may experience vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea or dark-coloured stool. Most of these side effects of FERROUS ASCORBATE do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
Please tell your doctor if you are allergic to FERROUS ASCORBATE or any other medicines. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before using FERROUS ASCORBATE. FERROUS ASCORBATE should be used in children only if recommended by a doctor. You are recommended to take FERROUS ASCORBATE for as long as your doctor advises it.
Anaemia
FERROUS ASCORBATE contains Ferrous ascorbate, which is a combination of iron and vitamin C. Iron works by reloading iron stores by increasing red blood cells (RBC) and haemoglobin (a protein) production in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBCs are produced in the body so that each tissue gets a sufficient supply of oxygen. Thus, it replenishes iron stores in the body. Vitamin C enhances iron absorption in the body. Thereby, FERROUS ASCORBATE helps to treat iron deficiency.
If you are allergic to FERROUS ASCORBATE or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before using FERROUS ASCORBATE. FERROUS ASCORBATE should be used in children only if recommended by a doctor. You are recommended to take FERROUS ASCORBATE for as long as your doctor advises it. Avoid taking FERROUS ASCORBATE along with dairy products, coffee, tea or alcohol. You are advised to inform your doctor if you are taking any other medicines.
Drug-Drug Interaction: FERROUS ASCORBATE may have interaction with anticonvulsants (phenytoin), antibiotics (chloramphenicol, levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, doxycycline, minocycline), bisphosphonates (alendronate), medicines used to lower high blood pressure (methyldopa), thyroid medicine (levothyroxine), antiparkinsonian agent (levodopa).
Drug-Food Interaction: Avoid intake of dairy products, coffee or tea with FERROUS ASCORBATE at the same time as they may reduce the absorption of FERROUS ASCORBATE.

Anaemia: It is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to various body tissues. Anaemia can be temporary, which can be treated with the help of supplements, and it can also be long-term, which might require medical procedures. It makes you feel tired very quickly due to a lack of oxygen supply in the body. It is one of the most common blood disorders.
