POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE is used to prevent and treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptoms, such as heartburn and indigestion. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This backflow (acid reflux) irritates the food pipe and causes heartburn.
POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE contains Potassium Hydrogen Carbonate and Sodium Alginate. It forms a protective layer on top of the stomach contents. This layer prevents reflux and keeps the stomach contents away from the food pipe lining, relieving heartburn symptoms and acid indigestion.
Take POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE for as long as your doctor has advised it for you based on your medical condition. POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE may cause side effects such as diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. Most of these side effects of POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
Please tell your doctor if you are allergic to sodium alginate, potassium hydrogen carbonate, or any other ingredients in POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE. If you have been advised to have a low-salt or controlled potassium diet, inform your doctor before taking POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE. Do not take more than the recommended dose, as too much of an intake of POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE may cause bloating and some abdominal discomfort.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE belongs to a group of medicines called reflux suppressants. It contains Potassium, Hydrogen Carbonate, and Sodium Alginate. POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE is used to prevent and treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) symptoms such as indigestion, heartburn and regurgitation, including during pregnancy. In addition, it can be used to relieve symptoms of conditions such as reflux oesophagitis (inflamed food pipe), hiatus hernia (protrusion of muscle through a muscle wall) and hoarseness and other voice disorders symptoms, cough and sore throat associated with reflux. It can also be used to manage heartburn symptoms that may arise when taking, or after stopping medications such as Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) or H2 antagonists to reduce stomach acid.
Please tell your doctor if you are allergic to potassium hydrogen carbonate, sodium alginate, or any other ingredients in POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE. If you have been advised to have a low salt diet or a controlled potassium diet, inform your doctor before taking POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE. Check that the cap seal is unbroken before first using POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE. Do not take more than the recommended dose, as too much of an intake of POTASSIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE+SODIUM ALGINATE may cause bloating and some abdominal discomfort. Though it is unlikely to be harmful, please consult your doctor if this doesn’t go away.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): It occurs when stomach acid repeatedly flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). This backflow (acid reflux) irritates the food pipe and causes heartburn. The stomach is usually protected from acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets irritated or eroded, which leads to complications like GERD, hyperacidity, peptic ulcers, and heartburn. Symptoms include heartburn, difficulty swallowing and a sour or bitter taste in the mouth.
