- Begin by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Pat them dry with a towel. You may also use an alcohol swab to clean your finger before testing, but make sure it's completely dry before you start.
- Take a diabetes test strip from the OneTouch Ultra Test Strips 25 pack and insert it into the slot on your glucometer just before pricking your finger.
- Using a clean lancet (a device that holds the needle), prick the end of your finger.
- After pricking your finger, wait until a drop of blood forms. Wipe off the first drop, and then put one or two drops onto the test strip attached to your glucometer.
- Apply pressure using a clean cotton pad or gauze on the prick site until the bleeding stops.
