Sucral Ano Cream is used in the treatment of anal fissures, fistula and piles. It promotes the healing of fissures, helps form new, healthy skin, and minimises infection and pain around the anal canal. It may cause side effects such as a skin rash, mild irritation, tingling, or a burning sensation. Before using this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about pre-existing medical conditions.
I have a painful boil-like bump near my anus. Could this be piles? I have been using Sucral Ano and taking Duphalac, but the pain persists. Should I take a painkiller?
Dr S Aneela
M. Pharm (Pharmacology)., PhD
A painful boil-like lump near the anus may be a thrombosed pile, fissure, or abscess, not just simple piles. Since pain is persisting despite treatment, avoid self-medicating with painkillers and consult a doctor, as some conditions need specific treatment or drainage.
I have been using Sucral Ano Cream for 2 years. Earlier, the cream came in an aluminium tube, and the texture stayed creamy and consistent. Now it comes in a plastic tube, and after opening, it is creamy on the first day but becomes thin and watery after 1–2 days. Why is this happening?
Dr Bayyarapu Kumar

This change in texture is likely due to the difference in packaging. Aluminium tubes better protect the cream from air and moisture, helping maintain a stable, creamy consistency, whereas plastic tubes can allow slight air exposure after opening. This may cause creams containing sucralfate to separate and become more liquid over time, even though the product is safe to use. To improve consistency, gently knead the tube before each use and store it in a cool place. If you prefer the original texture, you may ask your pharmacist whether the aluminium-tube version or an alternative product with the same ingredients is available.
