Feeling gas even before meals and a sensation of gas coming up to the mouth is often due to acidity or acid reflux, where stomach acid or air moves upward into the food pipe. This can happen due to irregular eating habits, stress, excess tea/coffee, spicy or oily foods, or long gaps between meals. To manage this, try eating small, regular meals instead of skipping or delaying food, avoid lying down immediately after eating, and reduce intake of fried, spicy, and acidic foods. Limit tea, coffee, and carbonated drinks, and try to eat slowly to avoid swallowing excess air. Drinking enough water and including light physical activity, like walking, can also help digestion. If needed, doctors may prescribe antacids or acid-reducing medicines for relief. However, if symptoms are frequent, severe, or associated with burning in the chest, vomiting, or weight loss, you should consult a doctor for proper evaluation and treatment.
