Atazor R Tablet is a prescription medicine used, in combination with other antiretroviral medicines, to treat Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection. It contains atazanavir, which helps prevent HIV from multiplying, and ritonavir, which increases the amount of atazanavir in your body so that it works more effectively. Together, they help lower the amount of HIV (viral load), which can help protect your immune system and reduce the risk of HIV-related complications.
Although Atazor R Tablet helps control HIV infection, it does not cure HIV or prevent the virus from spreading to others. Continue following your doctor's advice and practise safer sex to help reduce the risk of HIV transmission.
Take Atazor R Tablet exactly as prescribed, at the same time every day and with food, as food helps improve the absorption of atazanavir. Before starting treatment, your doctor may perform blood tests, including resistance testing, to help determine whether this medicine is suitable for your HIV strain and to guide treatment decisions.
Missing doses or stopping treatment without medical advice may allow HIV to become resistant to treatment, making the medicine less effective. Eating a balanced diet, staying physically active, avoiding smoking, and attending regular follow-up appointments may help support your overall health during treatment.
Like all medicines, Atazor R Tablet may cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. Contact your doctor promptly if you develop a severe skin rash, persistent abdominal pain, symptoms of liver problems, a slow or irregular heartbeat (called PR interval prolongation), or symptoms of kidney stones, such as severe pain in your side or back, pain while passing urine, or blood in the urine.
Before taking Atazor R Tablet , tell your doctor if you have liver disease, kidney disease, diabetes, haemophilia, or heart rhythm problems. Also inform your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, and supplements you are taking, as some may interact with this medicine. If you have an existing heart condition or are taking medicines that affect heart rhythm, your doctor may recommend an electrocardiogram (ECG) before starting treatment and during follow-up. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding, or are an older adult, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
