Ulevo 500 Tablet is used to treat various bacterial infections, most importantly acute pneumonia (lung infection), bronchitis (Inflammation of lung passages), skin infections, and urinary tract infections. It stops the process of multiplication of bacteria and hence kills bacteria. It may cause common side effects like nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhoea, constipation, trouble sleeping, and allergy. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

About Ulevo 500 Tablet

Ulevo 500 Tablet is an antibiotic that belongs to the third generation of fluoroquinolones. It is a highly effective antibiotic that works against a variety of bacteria. Ulevo 500 Tablet is used in a variety of bacterial infections, most importantly acute pneumonia (Lung infection), bronchitis (Inflammation of the lung passages), skin infections, and urinary tract infections. A bacterial infection is a condition in which bacteria grow in the body and cause an infection. It can target any body part and multiple parts very quickly. 

Dangerous bacteria can make you sick and replicate in your body quickly. Harmful bacteria create chemicals known as toxins that can harm the tissue and make you ill. Ulevo 500 Tablet sticks to enzymes (Topoisomerase IV & DNA gyrase) responsible for the division of bacteria & stop the process of multiplication of bacteria & hence kills bacteria.

The dose of Ulevo 500 Tablet can vary depending on your condition and the severity of the infection. Ulevo 500 Tablet may cause common side effects like nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhoea, constipation, trouble sleeping, and allergy. These side effects do not require immediate attention and will resolve eventually.  Nevertheless, if the side effects are persistent, contact your doctor.

Before starting Ulevo 500 Tablet, please inform your doctor if you have any allergies (to any antibiotic), kidney or liver problems. Do not take Ulevo 500 Tablet on your own, as self-medication may lead to antibiotic resistance, in which antibiotics fail to act against specific bacterial infections. Ulevo 500 Tablet is used to treat Bacterial infections. The detailed uses of Ulevo 500 Tablet are as follows:
• Respiratory Infections: Ulevo 500 Tablet is the antibiotic, effective against bacterial respiratory infections like pneumonia and bronchitis.
• Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Ulevo 500 Tablet is also used to treat complicated and uncomplicated UTIs.
• Skin Infections: Ulevo 500 Tablet is prescribed to treat skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
• Sinusitis: Ulevo 500 Tablet helps to treat bacterial sinus infections, easing symptoms and eliminating the disease.
• Prostatitis: Ulevo 500 Tablet is effective in treating bacterial prostatitis, an infection that causes prostate gland inflammation.
• Pelvic inflammatory disease: Ulevo 500 Tablet can be used to treat Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID), a bacterial infection of the female reproductive organs.

Directions for Use

Tablet/Capsule: Swallow it as a whole with water; do not crush, break or chew it. Syrup/Suspension: Shake the bottle well before use. Take the prescribed dose by mouth using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper provided by the pack.

What if I have taken an overdose of Ulevo 500 Tablet

Do not take more than the prescribed dose of Ulevo 500 Tablet as it may cause overdose. If you suspect you have taken overdose, please consult a doctor immediately.

Drug Warnings

Do not take Ulevo 500 Tablet if you are allergic or have had a severe reaction to any fluoroquinolone antibiotics such as delafloxacin, gemifloxacin, ofloxacin, moxifloxacin, and ciprofloxacin. Taking Ulevo 500 Tablet may increase the chances of developing tendinitis (swelling of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle) or have a tendon rupture (tearing of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle). Inform your doctor if you have or have ever had a kidney, heart, or lung transplant, kidney disease, a joint or tendon disorder such as rheumatoid arthritis (an autoimmune disorder of joints causing pain, swelling, and loss of function), seizures (fits), epilepsy or if you participate in regular physical activity. Taking Ulevo 500 Tablet may worsen muscle weakness in people with myasthenia gravis (a nervous system disorder that causes muscle weakness) and cause severe difficulty breathing or death. Dairy products should be avoided along with Ulevo 500 Tablet. And also, exposure to sunlight should be avoided while taking Ulevo 500 Tablet as it may cause increased phototoxicity or photosensitivity. Patients with epilepsy and irregular heartbeat (QT prolongation) should tell their doctor before taking Ulevo 500 Tablet.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Dairy products such as milk and yogurt must be avoided for at least 2 hours before and after taking the medicine.
  • Maintaining good hygiene is essential.
  • Have more fibre-enriched food in your diet. Fibre is easily digested by your gut bacteria, which helps stimulate their growth. Thus, fiber-rich foods may help restore healthy gut bacteria after a course of antibiotics.
  • After taking the full course of levofloxacin, probiotics should be taken to restore healthy bacteria that could have been destroyed in the intestines. Probiotics can minimise the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea.
