About Betadine Gargle
Betadine Gargle is an antiseptic and disinfectant used to treat a sore throat. It also treats and prevents infections of the mouth and throat lining, such as gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and mouth ulcers. Betadine Gargle is also used to cleanse the mouth for preparation of the oral mucosa before any injection, dental surgery or tooth extraction.
Betadine Gargle contains Povidone iodine, which works by killing harmful microbes and reducing inflammation. It supports quicker healing, alleviates pain, and helps prevent further infection.
Betadine Gargle may cause common side effects, such as mouth or throat irritation, dryness of the mouth and throat, and a burning sensation. These side effects gradually resolve over time and do not require medical attention. However, if the side effects persist longer, please seek medical help.
Please tell your doctor if you are undergoing any lithium therapy or treatment involving radioactive iodine. Do not use Betadine Gargle before or after radioiodine scintigraphy or radioiodine treatment of thyroid carcinoma. Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive or are a lactating mother.

Betadine Gargle is an antiseptic and disinfectant used to treat sore throat. It also treats and prevents infections of the mouth and throat lining, such as gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) and mouth ulcers. Betadine Gargle is also used to cleanse the mouth and prepare the oral mucosa before any dental procedure, including injections, surgery, or tooth extractions.
Betadine Gargle is an antiseptic and disinfectant that inhibits the growth of infection-causing microbes. As a small molecule, Iodine in Betadine Gargle can easily penetrate into microorganisms and oxidise essential proteins, nucleotides, and fatty acids, leading to cell death.
Betadine Gargle is not recommended for use if you are undergoing any lithium therapy or treatment involving radioactive iodine. Betadine Gargle should not be used before or after radioiodine scintigraphy or radioiodine treatment of thyroid carcinoma. In such conditions, please consult your doctor before using Betadine Gargle.
Betadine Gargle may interfere with thyroid function tests due to the absorption of iodine. Please inform your doctor before starting Betadine Gargle if you have any history of thyroid problems. Betadine Gargle can also yield false-positive lab results, such as tests using toluidine or guaiac, to detect haemoglobin or glucose in the stool or urine.
Betadine Gargle is not meant for long-term usage or routine use. Do not use Betadine Gargle for more than seven days unless instructed to do so by a doctor.
Betadine Gargle is intended for treating sore throat and infections associated with the mouth and throat. Unlike other over-the-counter mouthwashes, it is not meant for use as a breath freshener.
Betadine Gargle will not stain your teeth. The natural brown colour of Betadine Gargle is due to its component, Povidone iodine. However, it may stain dentures and braces when used during dental treatment.
Betadine Gargle may cause common side effects like mouth or throat irritation, dryness of mouth and throat, and burning sensation. These side effects gradually resolve over time and do not require medical attention. However, if the side effects persist longer, please seek medical help.
