You should immediately wash off any paste, as it can trap heat and increase the risk of infection. Hold your wrist under cool running water for 10 to 20 minutes to stop the burning process and reduce tissue damage. After cooling, apply an antibiotic or antiseptic ointment and cover the area with a sterile, non-stick dressing. Seek medical attention if you notice blisters, increasing swelling, discharge, or severe pain.

You should gently clean the cuts with clean water or sterile saline to remove any dirt. Apply an antiseptic ointment or a mild antibiotic cream, then cover them with a clean dressing and change it at least once a day. For bruises, use a cold compress for the first 24 to 48 hours and keep the area elevated when possible. Bruises and cuts heal naturally over time, and there is no ointment that will make them dry or heal instantly.

You may use a soothing burn cream such as silver sulfadiazine, an antiseptic ointment like povidone-iodine, or aloe vera gel. Keep the burn covered with a sterile, non-stick dressing and change it daily. Please consult a doctor if the burn worsens, develops extensive blisters, or shows signs of infection.

After a fall, I have abrasions on my face from the right eye to the mouth. There is swelling and a thick, sticky discharge coming from the wounds. Is Betadine ointment enough to treat this, or do I need additional treatment?

A thick, sticky discharge and swelling suggest that the wounds may be infected, and Betadine ointment (povidone-iodine) alone may not be enough. You should see a doctor, as you may need oral antibiotics and proper wound care to prevent the infection from spreading and to support healing. Until then, gently clean the wounds with sterile saline, keep the area dry, and avoid touching or scratching them.
