Tolfen Capsule is used to relieve signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis of the hip and knee. About Tolfen Capsule

Tolfen Capsule is used to relieve signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis of the hip and knee. Osteoarthritis is a joint disease in which the two ends of the joints come together due to the breakdown of a protective covering called cartilage.

Tolfen Capsule contains Polmacoxib, which works by inhibiting the cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme in the body. This enzyme is involved in producing certain chemical substances called prostaglandins that cause pain and swelling. Thus, it helps relieve pain and swelling.

Take Tolfen Capsule as prescribed. Your doctor will advise you on how often you take Tolfen Capsule based on your medical condition. Sometimes, Tolfen Capsule may cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, heartburn, dizziness, stomach pain, gas, constipation or diarrhoea. Most of these side effects of Tolfen Capsule do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor. 

If you are allergic to sulphonamides, polmacoxib, aspirin, or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, please tell your doctor. Tolfen Capsule is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Tolfen Capsule should be used with caution in patients with diabetes, bronchial asthma, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, history of oedema, peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding.

Uses of Tolfen Capsule

Tolfen Capsule is used in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the hip and knee. The detailed uses of Tolfen Capsule are as follows:<br/>• Treatment of osteoarthritis: Tolfen Capsule is primarily used to treat osteoarthritis, especially in the knee and hip joints.<br/>• Relief of pain and stiffness: Tolfen Capsule is used to relieve pain, stiffness and inflammation.<br/>

Directions for Use

• Take Tolfen Capsule after a meal or as advised by your doctor.• Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication, usually taken at regular intervals to ensure safety and effectiveness.• Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water.• Do not crush, break, or chew it.

Tolfen Capsule belongs to a class of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It is used to reduce pain, stiffness and inflammation caused by osteoarthritis.

How Tolfen Capsule Works

Tolfen Capsule contains Polmacoxib, which works by inhibiting the cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme in the body. This enzyme is involved in producing certain chemical substances called prostaglandins that cause pain and swelling. Thus, it helps relieve pain and swelling.

Storage

• Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight.• Keep Tolfen Capsule out of reach and sight of children. • Non cold chain - To be stored in cool places at 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.
Side effects of Tolfen Capsule
  • Wear compression garments like stockings, sleeves, or gloves to apply pressure and help stop fluid from building up, especially after the swelling goes down.
  • Move around and do exercises to help the fluid circulate, especially in swollen limbs. Ask your doctor for specific exercises.
  • Raise the swollen area above your heart level several times a day, even while sleeping, to help reduce swelling.
  • Gently massage the swollen area with firm but not painful pressure.
  • Keep the swollen area clean and moisturized to prevent injury and infection.
  • Reduce salt intake to help prevent fluid from building up and worsening the swelling, as advised by a doctor.
  • If the swelling does not get better after a few days of home treatment or worsens, consult your doctor right away.
  • Reduce salt intake to minimize fluid buildup.
  • Use compression stockings, sleeves, or gloves.
  • Gently massage the affected area towards the heart.
  • Protect the swollen area from injury and keep it clean.
  • Use lotion or cream to keep the skin moisturized.
  • Drink water or other clear fluids.
  • To prevent worsening of pain, limit intake of tea, coffee, or alcohol.
  • Include bland foods like rice, toast, crackers, and rice in your diet.
  • Avoid lying down immediately after eating as it may cause indigestion or heartburn.
  • Avoid acidic and spicy food as it may cause indigestion.

What if I have taken an overdose of Tolfen Capsule

Please do not exceed the recommended dose, as it might cause an overdose. Signs and symptoms of an overdose of Tolfen Capsule may include large pupils, warm, dry skin, flushed face, fever, dry mouth, fast or irregular heartbeat, anxiety, hallucinations, confusion, agitation, hyperactivity, loss of consciousness, and seizures. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience these symptoms or think you might have taken too much.

Drug Warnings

If you are allergic to polmacoxib, aspirin, or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, please tell your doctor. Tolfen Capsule is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Tolfen Capsule should be used with caution in patients with diabetes, bronchial asthma, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, history of oedema, peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding. Patients with uncontrolled high blood pressure should avoid taking Tolfen Capsule as it may worsen the condition. If you have slurred speech, chest pain, weakness, or shortness of breath while taking Tolfen Capsule , consult a doctor immediately, as these might be symptoms of cardiovascular toxicity. Elderly patients should use Tolfen Capsule with caution as they may be at greater risk for serious gastrointestinal adverse effects such as intestinal or gastric bleeding, perforation and ulceration.

  • Maintain a healthy body weight, as obesity may cause joint pains. Do not go for heavy exercise as it may increase your joint pain in arthritis.
  • Instead, you can do stretching and low-impact aerobic exercises like walking on a treadmill, bike riding, and swimming. You can also strengthen your muscles by lifting light weights.
  • Include more glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, Vitamin D, and calcium-enriched supplements. Besides this, turmeric and fish oils can help in reducing inflammation in the tissue.
  • In the chronic conditions of arthritis or joint pain, try to include fish like salmon, trout, tuna, and sardines. These fishes are enriched with omega-3 fatty acids, which help reduce inflammation (redness and swelling).
  • Your sitting posture is important, especially when you have pain and inflammation conditions. Try to sit as little as possible, and only for a short time (10-15 min). Use back support like a rolled-up towel at the back of your curve to minimize pain. Besides this, you can use a footrest if required.
