S-Vidone Ointment belongs to the class of medications called 'antiseptic and disinfectant,' primarily used to treat and prevent skin infections in minor burns, cuts, and abrasions (the first layer of skin is scraped off). A wound occurs when your skin is injured or broken, resulting in tissue or skin damage, bleeding, or infection.

S-Vidone Ointment is a combination drug containing Metronidazole, Povidone-Iodine and Sucralfate. Povidone iodine works by inhibiting the growth of infection-causing microbes. Metronidazole inhibits protein synthesis and leads to cell death, thereby killing the bacteria. Sucralfate helps form a protective barrier over the wound to promote healing. Collectively, S-Vidone Ointment helps treat cuts, wounds and infections.

S-Vidone Ointment is for external use only. As with every medicine, S-Vidone Ointment has common side effects. These include local swelling, itchiness, redness, small blisters, and irritation at the application site. These side effects gradually resolve during the treatment and do not require medical attention.

Brief your medical history to the doctor if you are allergic to iodine or povidone. Let your doctor know if you have an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism), thyroid disease, liver, or kidney problems. Using S-Vidone Ointment during breastfeeding may increase the iodine levels in breast milk, which can cause hypothyroidism in breastfed infants. Please consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive before using S-Vidone Ointment.

S-Vidone Ointment is effective against bacteria (Gram-positive and Gram-negative, including antibiotic-resistant and antiseptic-resistant strains), fungi, and viruses. S-Vidone Ointment contains Metronidazole, Povidone-Iodine and Sucralfate. Povidone iodine works by inhibiting the growth of infection-causing microbes. Metronidazole inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death and ultimately killing the bacteria. Sucralfate helps form a protective barrier over the wound, promoting healing. Do not use S-Vidone Ointment if you are allergic to povidone-iodine. Let your doctor know if you have an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism), any other thyroid diseases, or liver and kidney problems since using S-Vidone Ointment can cause iodine absorption into the body. Using S-Vidone Ointment during breastfeeding may increase the iodine levels in breast milk, which can cause hypothyroidism in breastfed infants. S-Vidone Ointment can cause excessive iodine absorption with its vaginal use; hence, avoid douching (washing) with S-Vidone Ointment and iodine-containing tampons during breastfeeding.
