INSULIN LISPRO IU belongs to the class of ‘anti-diabetic drugs’, primarily used to treat diabetes mellitus. Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases that cause high blood sugar levels. Diabetes occurs when your body doesn’t produce enough insulin (a hormone produced by the pancreas's beta cells) to break down glucose or not use the produced insulin effectively. Symptoms include increased thirst, frequent urination, increased appetite, and blurred vision.
INSULIN LISPRO IU contains ‘Insulin Lispro’ that is an insulin analog. It is produced by recombinant DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) technology. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas's beta cells that convert blood glucose or sugars into energy. INSULIN LISPRO IU lowers the blood glucose levels in diabetic patients by acting as insulin hormone.
Use INSULIN LISPRO IU as prescribed by your doctor. Some common side effects of INSULIN LISPRO IU include low blood sugar, weight gain, swelling of hands and feet, itching, headache, sore throat, increased cough, and thickening of the skin at the injection site. These side effects are not familiar to everyone and vary individually. If you notice any side effects that are not manageable, please consult your doctor.
Before starting INSULIN LISPRO IU, let your doctor know if you have any medical history of heart, kidney, or liver diseases, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), and low potassium levels in the blood (hypokalaemia). Do not take or stop this medicine if the doctor did not advise you to do so. It is recommended to avoid your alcohol intake while using INSULIN LISPRO IU to avoid low blood sugar levels further. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before starting INSULIN LISPRO IU. INSULIN LISPRO IU is recommended for children above three years of age. INSULIN LISPRO IU is not recommended for use in children of any age group to treat type 2 diabetes.

INSULIN LISPRO IU may be advised along with diet and exercise by your doctor to control blood sugar levels.
Do not take or stop this medicine if the doctor did not advise you to do so. Brief your medical history to doctor if you have any heart, kidney, or liver diseases, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), and low potassium levels in the blood (hypokalaemia) before starting INSULIN LISPRO IU. Do not share an injection pen, cartridge, or syringe with another person, even if the needle is changed. Do not inject INSULIN LISPRO IU daily at the same injection site since it may cause skin changes, such as lumps under the skin. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience blurred vision, dizziness, or drowsiness due to extremely low or high blood sugar. It is advised to avoid your alcohol intake while using INSULIN LISPRO IU to further avoid low blood sugar levels. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before starting this medication. INSULIN LISPRO IU is advised to be only used in children above three years of age. INSULIN LISPRO IU is not recommended for use in children of any age group to treat type 2 diabetes.
Drug-Drug Interaction: INSULIN LISPRO IU may interact with other blood pressure-lowering medicines (captopril, enalapril, metoprolol, propranolol), tumour treating drugs (octreotide), corticosteroids, blood thinners (aspirin), hormones (danazol), drugs that prevent premature labour (ritodrine), respiratory drugs (salbutamol, terbutaline), antibiotics, antidepressants, and oral anti-diabetic drugs
Drug-Food Interaction: Avoid alcohol intake since it affects blood sugar levels. Avoid fatty foods and include healthy carbohydrates in your diet.
Drug-Disease Interaction: Tell your doctor before taking INSULIN LISPRO IU if you have a medical history of allergic reactions to medicines, heart, kidney or liver diseases, hypoglycaemia, and hypokalaemia.
It is advised to avoid alcohol intake since it may worsen the side effects and increase the risk of developing low blood sugar levels.
It is advised to use INSULIN LISPRO IU in pregnancy only if the benefit outweighs the risk. Please consult your doctor before starting INSULIN LISPRO IU if you are pregnant or planning to conceive.
INSULIN LISPRO IU is recommended for use in breastfeeding only when advised by a doctor.

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease that causes high blood sugar levels. Type 1 diabetes (juvenile diabetes) is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks and destroys its own cells in the pancreas, thereby producing no insulin. It often occurs in childhood. Type 2 diabetes (adult-onset diabetes) occurs when the insulin (a hormone produced by the beta cells of the pancreas) is resistant in breaking the glucose to produce energy (insulin resistance), or the pancreas (an organ behind the stomach) produces little or no insulin at all. Symptoms include frequent urination, increased thirst, hunger, and blurred vision. The treatment includes oral glucose-lowering medicines and insulin shots.
