I have oily and acne-prone skin and currently use regular soap on my face. Should I switch to a face wash, and which medicated face wash would you recommend?
Yes, you should definitely switch. Regular soap is highly alkaline and strips your skin's natural moisture barrier, which actually triggers more oil production and worsens acne. For oily, acne-prone skin, I recommend a medicated face wash containing Salicylic Acid (2%). This is a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that penetrates deep into pores to dissolve excess sebum and unclog them. Alternatively, if you have inflammatory acne, a Benzoyl Peroxide (2.5% to 5%) face wash is excellent for killing acne-causing bacteria. Wash twice daily and always follow up with a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturiser.
