Excessive hair loss can happen for many reasons, including stress, poor diet, dandruff, lack of sleep, hormonal imbalance, anaemia, thyroid problems, recent illness, weight loss, or excessive use of chemical hair products. The first step in controlling hair fall is to improve overall hair and scalp care. Eat a balanced diet rich in protein, iron, vitamins, and minerals by including foods such as eggs, milk, pulses, nuts, green leafy vegetables, fruits, and plenty of water. Avoid skipping meals or following very strict diets, as nutritional deficiencies can increase hair shedding. Use a mild shampoo 2-3 times a week to keep the scalp clean, especially if you have dandruff or itching. Avoid excessive hair colouring, straightening, heat styling, tight hairstyles, and harsh hair treatments that may weaken the hair roots. Managing stress through proper sleep, exercise, yoga, or relaxation techniques can also help reduce hair fall significantly. If the hair loss is severe, sudden, associated with thinning patches, scalp itching, or continues for several weeks, it is important to consult a dermatologist. The doctor may advise blood tests to check for conditions such as low iron, vitamin deficiency, or thyroid imbalance and may recommend specific treatments like supplements, medicated lotions, or hair-growth therapies based on the cause. Hair improvement usually takes time, so regular care and patience are important for better results.
