I am a lactating mother and have a breast abscess that has not healed for the last 9 days despite daily dressing and taking Amoxyclav 625, Chymoral, and antacid. What should I do?
A breast abscess during breastfeeding can take time to heal, but if there is still swelling, pain, pus, or redness after 9 days of dressing and medicines, it may need reassessment. Amoxyclav 625 and Chymoral may help with infection and swelling, but some abscesses require drainage, ultrasound evaluation, or a change in antibiotics depending on the severity and bacteria involved. Continuing breastfeeding or emptying the breast regularly is often important because milk stasis can worsen infection. Warm compresses before feeding and proper breast support may help improve drainage and reduce discomfort. Staying hydrated, resting properly, and maintaining hygiene around the affected area may also support healing gradually. Do not squeeze the abscess or stop medicines suddenly without medical advice. Persistent infection can sometimes spread deeper into the breast tissue if not treated adequately. A doctor may advise further evaluation if healing is delayed. Seek medical attention urgently if fever increases, redness spreads, pus discharge worsens, weakness develops, or the swelling becomes more painful despite ongoing treatment.
