Recurrent anal fissures are commonly linked to chronic constipation and repeated strain during bowel movements. Even after surgery, fissures can return if constipation continues or if the anal muscles remain tight. The most important step is to keep stools soft by increasing fibre intake through fruits, vegetables, oats, and plenty of water. Regular physical activity and avoiding prolonged sitting on the toilet are also helpful. Warm sitz baths for 10?15 minutes after passing stool can reduce pain and muscle spasm. Doctors may prescribe stool softeners, fibre supplements, or ointments that relax the anal muscles. If the problem continues despite treatment, you may need further evaluation by a colorectal surgeon to rule out conditions like infection, inflammatory bowel disease, or improper healing. Avoid self-medicating with laxatives for long periods without supervision.
