Please do not give your baby any over-the-counter cough or cold medicines. For a 16-day-old premature infant, a cough and cold can quickly become dangerous. Premature newborns have underdeveloped immune systems and small airways, placing them at high risk for serious complications like RSV, pneumonia, or breathing difficulties. You must seek immediate medical attention from your paediatrician or go to the nearest emergency room. Do not wait to see if it gets better. For temporary relief of congestion before you see the doctor, you can use a cool-mist humidifier or put a drop of sterile saline in each nostril and gently use a bulb syringe.
