I recently found out that I am pregnant through a home pregnancy test. Earlier this month, before I knew I was pregnant, I had a urinary tract infection and was treated with antibiotics such as Metcilin and Cefolac-O. Will taking these medicines have any harmful effects on my pregnancy or the baby?
Metcilin (Amoxycillin) is generally safe to use in early pregnancy and is often prescribed for urinary tract infections. Cefolac-O (Cefixime and Ofloxacin) is not usually recommended during pregnancy, but taking a short course before you knew you were pregnant is unlikely to cause harm. Most exposures like this do not affect the baby. Please inform your doctor and attend regular prenatal check-ups and scans for reassurance.
