What medicines are used to treat cancer?
Cancer can be treated with several types of medicines. Chemotherapy kills fast-growing cancer cells, targeted therapies attack specific genetic changes in tumours, immunotherapy helps your immune system destroy cancer cells, and hormone therapy blocks the hormones that certain cancers, such as breast or prostate cancer, need to grow. Supportive medications may also be used to manage symptoms. Your doctor will select the most appropriate treatment depending on the type and stage of the cancer to either cure it, slow its spread, or relieve symptoms.
