For viral conjunctivitis, antibiotics will not work; it usually resolves on its own, but you can use over-the-counter lubricating artificial tears and cool compresses to soothe discomfort. If you have thick, yellow-green discharge, it may be bacterial and require prescription antibiotic eye drops. If it is allergic, antihistamine eye drops will help. Please avoid rubbing your eyes, wash your hands frequently to prevent spreading it, and consult an eye specialist for an accurate diagnosis and the correct prescription.
