A fever that settles with Combiflam but leaves behind severe throat pain and difficulty in swallowing is commonly seen in throat infections like viral pharyngitis or tonsillitis, and sometimes bacterial infection can also be the cause. Even after the fever reduces, the throat lining can stay inflamed for a few days, which makes eating and drinking painful. In some cases, dryness, post-nasal drip, or irritation from coughing can keep worsening the soreness even after the main fever phase is over. Right now, the focus should be on soothing the throat and reducing inflammation. Warm salt water gargles several times a day can help reduce pain and swelling. Taking warm fluids like soups, herbal tea, or plain warm water can make swallowing easier. Avoid spicy, sour, or very hot foods as they can irritate the throat further. Steam inhalation may also help if there is associated nasal congestion. If throat pain is very severe, persists beyond a few days, or if you notice white patches in the throat, difficulty opening the mouth, or worsening swallowing, it is important to get examined, as you may need specific treatment depending on whether it is viral or bacterial tonsillitis.
