I have noticed four small red boils on my penis and thighs. The boils on the penis sometimes appear and then disappear on their own. What could be causing this, and should I be concerned?
Small red boils or bumps on the penis and thighs can happen due to several common reasons, such as blocked hair follicles, sweating, friction from tight clothing, mild bacterial infection, fungal infection, or irritation after shaving. In some cases, the bumps may come and go on their own, especially if they are related to heat, sweat, or folliculitis (infection of hair roots). However, if the boils are repeatedly appearing on the penis, it is important not to ignore them completely, because certain sexually transmitted infections, allergies, or skin conditions can also cause similar symptoms. Avoid scratching, squeezing, or applying strong creams without medical advice, especially steroid-containing creams, as they may worsen the problem. Keep the area clean and dry, wear loose cotton underwear, and maintain proper hygiene. Avoid sexual contact until the exact cause is clear, especially if there is discharge, pain, ulcers, or itching. If the bumps increase in number, become painful, develop pus, cause burning during urination, or do not improve within a few days, you should consult a dermatologist or skin specialist for proper examination and treatment. Early diagnosis can help prevent complications and provide the right treatment.
