I am suffering from Sciatica. What are the treatment options?
Sciatica is pain that travels from the lower back down the leg due to irritation or compression of a nerve, and most cases improve with simple, non-surgical care. Start with rest (but avoid long bed rest), gentle activity as tolerated, hot or cold packs, and pain-relief medicines prescribed by a doctor. Physiotherapy with stretching and strengthening exercises is very important for recovery and prevention. Maintaining good posture, avoiding heavy lifting, and keeping a healthy weight also help. If pain is severe or not improving, doctors may suggest stronger medications or injections, and surgery is considered only in rare cases when there is persistent severe pain, weakness, or nerve damage.
