I am experiencing anxiety (ghabrahat), chest pain, and a sensation of rapid pulsation in my throat. My doctor has advised me to take Phenytoin 300 mg daily. Could these symptoms be related to my condition or medication, and how should they be managed?
Your symptoms of anxiety, chest discomfort, and a feeling of rapid pulsation in the throat can sometimes be related to stress or panic, but they should not be ignored. Phenytoin is usually prescribed for seizure control and is not a common cause of these symptoms, though it can occasionally cause dizziness or nervousness. It is important to rule out other causes such as acidity, heart rhythm issues, or anxiety disorders, so you should consult your doctor for a proper evaluation, which may include checking your heart (ECG) and reviewing your medications; in the meantime, try simple measures like regular sleep, avoiding caffeine and smoking, practising relaxation techniques, and eating light, regular meals. Do not stop your medicine on your own, and seek urgent care if you develop severe chest pain, breathlessness, or fainting.
