Age-related macular degeneration is a long-term eye condition that can progress slowly over time. It is a good sign that you have remained stable since your Lucentis injection (Ranibizumab), but regular follow-up with an eye doctor is very important to detect early changes. Treatment depends on the type and stage of the condition. If it becomes active again, ranibizumab or other similar medicines, such as aflibercept, may be needed to control abnormal blood vessel growth and protect vision. For early or dry stages, specific eye vitamins containing antioxidants and zinc may help slow progression in some patients, if advised by your doctor. You can take simple precautions to protect your eyesight, such as avoiding smoking, eating a healthy diet rich in green leafy vegetables, fruits, and fish, and wearing sunglasses to protect against strong sunlight. Keep your blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol under good control, and monitor your vision at home. If you notice any distortion or blurred patches, please see your eye doctor promptly.
