I have been taking Flagyl 400 twice daily since Friday, but my loose motions continue without much improvement. Why is this happening, and what treatment may help stop it?

Loose motions continuing even after taking Metronidazole may happen because the cause is not always a bacterial or parasitic infection. Diarrhoea can also occur due to viral infection, food poisoning, contaminated water, stomach irritation, food intolerance, or side effects from medicines. In some cases, the body may simply need more time and proper hydration to recover. The most important thing right now is preventing dehydration. Drink enough water, ORS, coconut water, or light fluids in small amounts throughout the day. Eat simple foods like rice, curd, banana, toast, khichdi, or soup, and avoid oily, spicy, outside, or very sugary foods for a few days. Do not stop or continue antibiotics for longer than advised without proper medical guidance because unnecessary antibiotic use can sometimes worsen stomach problems. Please consult a doctor if you develop fever, blood in stool, severe stomach pain, vomiting, weakness, dizziness, or if loose motions continue for several more days despite treatment.
