It sounds like you are dealing with a long-term burning sensation in your mouth following a burn injury, which can be challenging to fully resolve.
This persistent burning sensation may represent chronic neuropathic pain or burning mouth syndrome, conditions where nerve damage or dysfunction causes ongoing discomfort even after the initial injury has healed.
A detailed oral examination and neurological assessment are essential to evaluate nerve involvement and rule out other causes. Sometimes imaging or biopsy may be recommended to exclude underlying pathology.
Management usually involves a combination of topical treatments (like anesthetic gels or capsaicin rinses), systemic medications targeting nerve pain, and behavioral therapies to reduce discomfort and improve quality of life.
Medications such as gabapentin, nortriptyline, or clonazepam have been used to modulate nerve pain in similar cases. Gabapin NT 200 (containing gabapentin and nortriptyline) may help reduce neuropathic pain symptoms but usually requires a doctor’s prescription and supervision.
It is important to consult an oral medicine specialist or neurologist experienced in chronic neuropathic pain for a personalized treatment plan, as well as a pain management clinic if symptoms persist.
If you want, I can explain more about how these medications work or about behavioral therapies for chronic mouth pain.
