If the baby refuses direct nursing, it is okay to express breast milk using a breast pump and feed it to them using a clean bottle, spoon, or cup. Even when the mother has abundant milk, many newborns momentarily refuse to be fed because of gas, nasal blockage, bottle preference, or trouble latching. Maintain skin-to-skin contact, burp the infant correctly after feedings, and try feeding when the infant is calm and not extremely hungry. See a paediatrician or lactation specialist if the infant is still refusing to eat, is losing weight, has a fever, or passes fewer wet diapers.
