I am a heart patient and had bypass surgery, and I also have diabetes. I am taking Gemer 1 for sugar control, but my sugar levels are becoming very low, so now I am taking half a tablet. Is there any other medicine or a lower dose that may suit me better?
Low sugar episodes can be risky, especially for someone with both heart disease and diabetes. Gemer 1 may sometimes lower blood sugar more than expected in certain people, particularly if meals are delayed, appetite is reduced, kidney function changes, or body weight decreases. Symptoms like sweating, shakiness, weakness, dizziness, or confusion should not be ignored because repeated hypoglycemia can affect overall health and heart safety. Taking only half a tablet on your own may temporarily reduce the problem, but the safest option is to let your doctor review your sugar readings, HbA1c, meal pattern, and heart medicines before deciding whether a lower dose or a different diabetes medicine would suit you better. Some diabetes medicines are considered gentler with less risk of sudden low sugar, but the right choice depends on your heart condition, kidney function, and overall health. Eating meals on time, avoiding long gaps without food, checking blood sugar regularly, and carrying a quick source of sugar during travel may help prevent sudden drops. Consult your doctor soon if low sugar episodes continue or if you develop sweating, fainting, chest discomfort, severe weakness, or confusion.
