I often notice a sticky transparent discharge from my vagina, especially when I think about sexual things or my fiancee. Is this normal, and what can help reduce it?
A sticky, transparent vaginal discharge that appears during sexual thoughts or emotional arousal is usually normal. This happens because the body naturally produces lubrication when a woman feels excited, attracted, or emotionally connected. The discharge is commonly clear or slightly whitish, slippery, and without a strong smell. Hormonal changes during different parts of the menstrual cycle can also increase this type of discharge. In most cases, treatment is not needed if there is no itching, burning, bad odour, pelvic pain, or unusual colour. Wearing breathable cotton underwear, maintaining gentle hygiene, and avoiding excessive washing inside the vagina may help you stay comfortable. Stress and anxiety about the discharge can sometimes make you notice it more frequently. Consult your doctor if the discharge becomes yellow, green, thick like curd, foul-smelling, or associated with itching or pain, as these may suggest an infection that needs treatment.
