I have been using HHAZI 500 for acne treatment since my teenage years, and I still continue to get acne even after marriage. The acne seems controlled now, and I currently take the medicine once every two weeks. How long should I continue this treatment?
HHAZI 500 contains azithromycin, which is an antibiotic sometimes used for acne treatment. While it may help control acne for some time, antibiotics are generally not meant to be used continuously for very long periods without regular medical supervision. Taking azithromycin once every two weeks for a long time may increase the risk of antibiotic resistance, meaning the medicine may become less effective over time, and it can also sometimes affect digestion or cause other side effects. Since your acne is currently controlled, it is important to discuss with a dermatologist whether the medicine should now be stopped or replaced with safer long-term maintenance treatments such as medicated face washes, retinoid creams, benzoyl peroxide gels, or other acne-control creams. Adult acne can continue even after marriage and may be influenced by hormones, stress, oily skin, diet, cosmetics, or lifestyle factors. Along with treatment, wash your face gently twice daily, avoid squeezing pimples, use non-oily skin products, drink enough water, and maintain a balanced diet and good sleep routine. If acne is recurring frequently, leaving scars, or associated with irregular periods or excessive hair growth, further hormonal evaluation may also be needed. Do not continue long-term antibiotic use on your own without follow-up advice from your dermatologist.
