Diabetes is a long-term condition where the body is unable to keep blood sugar levels under control. This usually happens when the body does not produce enough insulin or the insulin does not work properly. It may be caused by a family history of diabetes, being overweight, unhealthy food habits, lack of exercise, stress, increasing age, and a sedentary lifestyle. Regular intake of sugary and processed foods may also increase the risk. Common symptoms of diabetes include feeling very thirsty, passing urine more often than usual, increased hunger, tiredness, blurred vision, slow healing of cuts or wounds, unexplained weight loss, and repeated infections. Some people may also notice tingling or numbness in the hands and feet. In many cases, early diabetes may not show clear symptoms, so regular health check-ups are important. Exercise plays a key role in controlling diabetes. Activities like brisk walking, cycling, swimming, yoga, and light jogging help improve blood sugar control. Simple strength exercises using light weights or resistance bands are also useful. It is generally advised to stay physically active for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week, along with a balanced diet and prescribed medicines if needed.
