Spotting or bleeding about five days after taking the I pill (levonorgestrel) is a very common and normal side effect. This emergency contraceptive contains hormones that temporarily alter your cycle, which often causes early bleeding. While this bleeding is expected, it does not completely guarantee that pregnancy was prevented. To be absolutely sure, I highly recommend taking a home pregnancy test if your next regular period is delayed by more than a week, or three weeks after you took the pill. Since you took it, try to rest easy as it is highly effective.
