  5. I have been a patient with arthritis for 15 years. My doctor has prescribed Intacept 25 mg injection, which I have been taking for the past 2 months, and I am feeling relief. However, it is very costly for me. Can I switch to a Cipla-made or any other cheaper alternative of the same medicine? Also, what are its long-term side effects?

Intacept 25 mg injection contains a biologic medicine called etanercept, which helps control inflammation in arthritis by calming down the overactive immune system. Since you are feeling better, it means the treatment is working for you. However, this medicine should always be continued only under your doctor?s advice. You should not switch to another brand or a cheaper alternative on your own, even if it contains the same medicine. Different companies may make similar versions called biosimilars, but switching between them should be done only by your treating doctor. This is to ensure the effect remains stable and safe for you. When used long-term, etanercept may increase the risk of infections by lowering the immune response. Some people may also develop injection site reactions, mild allergic symptoms, or liver test changes. Rarely, it may increase the risk of serious infections such as tuberculosis reactivation. Very rarely, nerve problems or certain blood or skin conditions can occur. Regular follow-up with your doctor and routine blood tests help reduce these risks and keep treatment safe.
