I have pneumonia and have been receiving Intapime 1g injections three times daily for the last 5 days. What should I do next?
Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that can take time to improve even after antibiotics are started. You have been receiving Intapime injections (Cefepime) for the past 5 days, which is a strong antibiotic used for moderate to severe infections. In most cases, doctors review the response after a few days of treatment to see whether fever, cough, breathing difficulty and weakness are improving. If you are getting better, the same treatment is usually continued as advised by your doctor. If there is little or no improvement, or if symptoms are worsening, you should contact your doctor again for reassessment. You may need repeat blood tests, a chest x-ray, or a sputum test to adjust the antibiotics. Do not stop or change the injections on your own. Take adequate rest, drink plenty of fluids, and maintain a healthy diet. Seek urgent medical attention if there is increasing breathlessness, persistent fever, chest pain, confusion, or low oxygen levels.
