I have severe throat pain and a cough. I started taking Kefpod 200, but even after 3 doses, there is no relief. Should I continue the medicine or consult a doctor again?
Severe throat pain and cough may take a little time to improve even after starting antibiotics, especially if the infection is viral or the throat is very inflamed. Kefpod 200 is an antibiotic used for certain bacterial infections, but many throat infections are caused by viruses, where antibiotics may not give quick relief. After only 3 doses, it is still too early to judge the full effect of the medicine. If the antibiotic was prescribed by a doctor, it is usually better not to stop it suddenly without advice. Warm fluids, steam inhalation, saltwater gargles, rest, and avoiding cold or irritating foods may help reduce throat discomfort while the body recovers. Pain relief medicines are sometimes also needed to control severe throat pain. However, if the pain is becoming worse, swallowing is very difficult, fever remains high, breathing feels uncomfortable, white patches appear in the throat, or there is no improvement after a few more days, another medical review may be needed to reassess the cause and treatment.
