I am having a lot of dandruff, and even after using fungal drops and shampoo, it has increased. Now, I am also getting pimples on my scalp, and there is white buildup at the borders that becomes powdery and falls like dust when I rub it. What could this be, and how can I control it properly?
What you are describing sounds more like a stubborn scalp condition such as seborrheic dermatitis, where dandruff, excess oil, and a mild fungal overgrowth all act together. The white powdery flakes that fall off, along with itching and new small pimples on the scalp, can also happen when the scalp becomes irritated from repeated scratching or using too many products at once. In some cases, folliculitis (infection of hair follicles) can also cause pimple-like bumps. When this becomes long-standing, simply switching shampoos or using drops may not be enough. The scalp often needs a more structured routine rather than multiple products. A medicated shampoo like ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, or selenium sulfide, used a few times a week, left for a few minutes before washing, usually works better than frequent changes. Avoid heavy oiling during active flares, as it can sometimes worsen the condition in sensitive scalps. Since you also have pimples and worsening symptoms, it would be better to get a dermatologist review. You may need a short course of scalp lotion or anti-inflammatory treatment to calm the infection and irritation properly.
