I have been suffering from a fungal infection for the past 3 months. I am currently taking Fluconazole 150mg tablets on alternate days and a Cetirizine tablet at night, along with using Ketoconazole lotion twice a day and Ketoconazole soap, but I am not getting any relief. Could you please suggest alternative tablets or lotions to treat this?
A fungal infection that has persisted for 3 months despite treatment may be due to a resistant fungus, an incorrect diagnosis, an incomplete response to the medicines, or reinfection from clothing, towels, or sweating. Fluconazole and ketoconazole are commonly used antifungal medicines, but some fungal infections no longer respond well to them. Doctors may sometimes prescribe other antifungal creams, such as luliconazole, terbinafine, sertaconazole, or ciclopirox, when ketoconazole is not effective. In persistent or widespread infections, different oral antifungal tablets may also be considered after proper medical evaluation. However, these medicines should not be changed or continued for long periods without supervision because they can affect the liver and may interact with other medicines. It is important to keep the affected area dry, wear loose cotton clothing, avoid scratching, and wash towels and clothes regularly. Continue treatment for the full recommended duration even if symptoms improve. You should consult a dermatologist for proper examination and possibly a fungal scraping test to identify the exact cause before changing treatment.
