My child has been suffering from cough and cold for the past one week. She is currently taking Solvin and Kofarest-PD syrup, but there has not been much improvement or quick relief. Should I wait for a few more days or consult the doctor again?

Cough and cold in children are commonly caused by viral infections and may sometimes take 1-2 weeks to improve completely, even when medicines are being used. Solvin and Kofarest-PD syrup may help reduce mucus, cough, and discomfort, but they do not always provide immediate relief because the body still needs time to recover from the infection. If your child is active, drinking fluids well, eating reasonably, and does not have breathing difficulty or high fever, you may continue supportive care for a few more days while closely monitoring the symptoms. Make sure your child gets enough rest, drinks plenty of warm fluids, avoids cold foods or drinks, and stays away from dust or smoke exposure. Steam inhalation, if suitable for the child's age and done safely, may also help loosen congestion. However, since the symptoms have already lasted for one week without much improvement, it would be a good idea to consult the doctor again if the cough becomes severe, the child develops fever, fast breathing, wheezing, vomiting, poor feeding, excessive sleepiness, ear pain, or if the cough continues beyond another few days. Sometimes, a repeated or persistent cough may be related to an allergy, sinus infection, throat irritation, or chest infection, which may need further evaluation. Avoid giving additional medicines or antibiotics on your own without medical advice. With proper care and timely review, most children recover well without complications.
