I had a fever earlier, and it has gone now, but I still have throat pain with a heavy voice and a tickling feeling that makes me clear my throat again and again, even after taking Kuffdryl syrup and doing warm salt water gargles. I am not feeling much relief. What can I do now to soothe my throat and recover faster?
After a fever, it's quite common to still have throat irritation, a hoarse voice, and a constant tickling feeling. This usually happens because the throat lining remains inflamed even after the infection settles, or sometimes due to post-viral irritation with dryness and mild swelling of the vocal cords. Repeated throat clearing can actually make the irritation worse and keep the cycle going. At this stage, the throat needs more soothing and rest rather than stronger syrups. Warm fluids like herbal tea, soups, and plenty of water can help keep the throat moist. Steam inhalation once or twice daily may reduce dryness and ease the tickling sensation. Try to avoid shouting, speaking for long periods, or whispering, as all of these can strain the voice further. Dry air, cold drinks, and smoking (if applicable) can also slow recovery. If symptoms are not improving in a few days or if there is worsening pain, difficulty swallowing, breathlessness, or persistent hoarseness beyond 1-2 weeks, it is better to get examined to rule out bacterial infection, allergy, or vocal cord inflammation needing specific treatment.
