My skin is dry and itchy; what lotion or medicine should I use?
For dry, itchy skin, I recommend using a thick, fragrance-free moisturising cream or ointment containing ceramides, hyaluronic acid, or colloidal oatmeal (such as CeraVe, Cetaphil, or Aveeno) immediately after bathing. For active itching, you can apply an over-the-counter 1% hydrocortisone cream or a lotion containing pramoxine hydrochloride to the itchy areas twice daily. Avoid hot showers, harsh soaps, and scratching, which worsen irritation. If the itching is severe, keeps you awake, or your skin becomes red, swollen, or painful, please consult a doctor for a proper evaluation and potential prescription treatments.
