I have had a fungal infection on my buttock for the past year. I have used Fluko tablets, Zole ointment, and Eclospan cream, but there has been no improvement. I am diabetic and currently taking Glycomet-GP 0.5, Targit-H, Ecosprin 75, Lipikind 10, and Cobadex CZS. What could be the reason for this persistent infection?
A fungal infection in the buttock area that does not improve for a long time is often linked to several underlying causes. In people with diabetes, high blood sugar can weaken the body?s natural defences and allow fungal infections to persist or keep coming back. Even with medication, poor sugar control can make treatment less effective. Another common reason is the use of steroid-based creams, such as Eclospan Cream, which contains Beclomethasone, Miconazole, and Neomycin. These creams may provide temporary relief but can actually worsen fungal infections over time by allowing the fungus to spread deeper into the skin. Moisture, sweating, tight clothing, and failure to keep the area dry may also contribute to the persistence of the infection. Sometimes, the condition may not be purely fungal and could be a combination of a fungal infection and eczema or another skin disease, which requires proper diagnosis. In such long-standing cases, a skin scraping test is often needed to confirm the exact cause. It is important to review diabetes control, avoid self-medication with creams, maintain good hygiene, and consult a dermatologist for targeted treatment.
