I take Macsart 40 in the morning after breakfast and Amlovas 2.5 at night after dinner for hypertension. My doctor said my hypertension is due to being overweight. My lipid profile and fasting sugar are within normal ranges. My ECG is also normal. My blood pressure was 168/90 before medication and is now 140/88 after 20 days. I am experiencing gas formation in my stomach. Is this a side effect? If I lose weight, can I stop medication, or will I need to take it for life? I'm 24 years old, 170 cm tall, and weigh 84 kg. I am an ex-smoker.
Blood pressure medications can cause gas and bloating, but these side effects are typically moderate and may be more due to stress or food than the medication itself. Your blood pressure may return to normal and medications may occasionally be lowered or stopped under medical supervision if you maintain healthy habits and decrease weight, but this should never be done on your own.
