My eyelid is swollen due to an insect bite, and using Maxmoist eye drops has not helped. What medication should I use to reduce the swelling?
Maxmoist eye drops are only lubricating drops and will not help reduce swelling from an insect bite. To target the swelling and allergic reaction, you should take an over-the-counter oral antihistamine (such as Cetirizine or Loratadine). Applying a clean, cold compress to your closed eyelid for 10-15 minutes several times a day will also help reduce inflammation. You can take Ibuprofen for pain and swelling. Do not apply topical creams close to the eye. If the swelling worsens, spreads, or is accompanied by vision changes, severe pain, or fever, please consult a doctor immediately, as this may indicate an infection requiring antibiotics.
