In Ulcerative proctitis, diet helps reduce irritation and support healing, though medicines like Mesacol, Entofoam, Mesalo Foam, and Razo-D remain the main treatment. During active symptoms (bleeding, frequent stools), choose a low-residue, easy-to-digest diet such as soft rice, khichdi, curd, bananas, boiled potatoes, applesauce, and well-cooked vegetables, and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid spicy, oily, and fried foods; caffeine; alcohol; raw salads; high-fibre foods; and dairy if they worsen symptoms. Eat small, frequent meals instead of large ones, and keep a food diary to identify personal triggers. Once symptoms improve, gradually reintroduce fibre and a balanced diet. Also, ensure adequate protein (dal, eggs if tolerated) and consider iron-rich foods if you have ongoing blood loss, but discuss supplements with your doctor. Regular follow-up is important if bleeding persists.
