I have diabetes for the last 3 years, and I am taking Metformin G 851 and Telmisartan 40 mg, but I am gaining weight, and my post-meal sugar is 160 to 180. Is there any diabetes medicine that can help control my sugar and also reduce my body weight?
Weight gain in diabetes can happen because of insulin resistance, reduced activity, overeating, stress, poor sleep, or medicines that increase appetite. A post-meal sugar level around 160-180 suggests that blood glucose is improving partially but may still need better control through diet, exercise, or adjustment of treatment. Metformin usually helps with insulin resistance and is less likely to cause weight gain compared to some other diabetes medicines. Some newer diabetes medicines may help both blood sugar control and weight reduction in suitable patients. Doctors sometimes prescribe medicines from the SGLT2 inhibitor or GLP-1 receptor agonist groups because they may support modest weight loss along with glucose improvement. However, the right choice depends on kidney function, heart health, current weight, eating habits, and overall diabetes control. Regular walking, reducing sugary foods, improving sleep, and portion control also strongly influence post-meal sugars. Frequent urination, sudden weight loss, very high sugars, or dizziness should be reviewed carefully during treatment changes.
